Philadelphia, PA – Greek-American societies and organizations came together to benefit the IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) and bring in the new year this past Friday evening at Estia restaurant. The IOCC offers emergency relief and development programs to those in need worldwide, without discrimination, and strengthens the capacity of the Orthodox Church to so respond.

Following a short prayer and Vasilopita cutting, leaders from each organization were introduced, who spoke about their upcoming events for the New Year. The evening allowed for community networking and was highlighted by an installation created by the GAHSP (Greek American Heritage Society of Philadelphia). Historical items collected from Philadelphia’s Greek American community were on display that featured the rich history of the community. Acting director, Nick Yiantsos of the GAHSP addressed the attendees and spoke about the organizations upcoming endeavors and invited the community to take part. He mentioned the Love your Yiayia & Pappou Photo Contest that was currently running and a series of community documentaries they are sponsoring to record the history of the Greek-American community.
