Greek schools and community associations abroad have until December 10 to express interest in the second round of To Vima tis Omogeneias, a program in which students produce their own Greek-language newspapers with guidance from professional journalists. Schools across the United States, including those in the Philadelphia area, are invited to participate.
The initiative is organized by Greece’s General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy in cooperation with Alter Ego Media and the Athens newspaper To Vima. Students research stories, conduct interviews, and write about their communities, local history, and experiences growing up outside Greece.
Journalists from To Vima will guide participating groups through the reporting and editorial process. Four online workshops are scheduled for November 2, November 16, November 30, and December 14, 2026. According to Panhellenic Post, the sessions will be scheduled to accommodate schools in different time zones, and recordings will be available afterward. Schools must submit an expression-of-interest form to participate in the workshops.
The first round involved 12 Greek schools in nine countries across four continents, including two in the United States: West Nyack, New York, and Charlotte, North Carolina.
Students at the Socrates Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, published To Vima tis Charlotte on May 31, 2026. Their newspaper explored Greek-American life through stories about the city’s Yiasou Greek Festival, family immigration experiences, Greek history, and a school trip to Greece. One student interviewed his grandparents about their journey from Greece to North Carolina, while others examined how the local Greek community maintains its language and traditions.
Other participating schools were based in cities including Perth, Johannesburg, Buenos Aires, Montreal, and Warsaw. Readers can browse all 12 editions in To Vima’s online archive, which offers prospective participants a look at the subjects students chose and how they approached their reporting.
Schools in cities not represented during the first round will receive priority, according to organizers. Interested Greek schools and community associations can submit the online expression-of-interest form until December 10, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Greece time.
