Upper Darby, PA – St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, February 5, 2012
While most of the country was focused on Indianapolis and the Super Bowl, the Greek-American community came together for a different kind of excitement: the 32nd annual Greek Orthodox Youth Association (GOYA) basketball playoffs.

Friends, families, and parishioners packed the gym at St. Demetrios in Upper Darby as eight teams from Broomall, PA to Egg Harbor, NJ competed in the opening round. The day delivered a mix of close finishes and standout performances.

The biggest surprise came in the final matchup, where 5th-seeded St. Thomas of Cherry Hill pulled off an upset over 4th-seeded St. Demetrios on their home court.

The playoff action continues next weekend in Egg Harbor, NJ, where the semifinals will be hosted at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
