Gus Mirisis of Hamilton, New Jersey, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Avalon Health & Rehabilitation, with his brother George and sister-in-law Theodora by his side. He was 74.
Mirisis participated in programs offered by The Arc Mercer for more than 50 years and also took part in Special Olympics.
His family remembered him as a happy, friendly, and gentle person. A devoted Philadelphia Phillies fan, he followed the team both at the ballpark and on television. He also enjoyed bowling and once recorded a score of 172.
Mirisis was the son of the late Nickolas Mirisis and Athena “Ethel” Mirisis, née Mammas.
He is survived by his brother, George Mirisis, and George’s wife, Theodora, of Hamilton, with whom he had lived for nearly six years following his mother’s death. He is also survived by his nephews, Nicholas G. Mirisis of Miami and Andrew G. Mirisis and his wife, Eleni, of Rockville, Maryland; his niece, Christina A. Mirisis of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Andrew and Eleni’s children, Athena and George; and many cousins in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, New York, Athens and Chios.
Family and friends may pay their respects Monday, August 31, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Road in Hamilton. The Greek Orthodox funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., followed by burial at Greenwood Cemetery, 1800 Hamilton Avenue in Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to St. George Greek Orthodox Church in memory of Gus Mirisis.
