Philadelphia, PA – Holy Friday Services took place at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral yesterday. Pink and white carnations adorned the Epitafios that sat at the altar while two small children stood by holding a basket. Under the direction of Father Ambrose Bitziadis-Bowers, the four-hour service took place with parishioners looking on. At approximately 8:20 pm, the crowd made its way around Olde City block in Olde City.
Quietly, the congregation, while holding lit candles, circled the church and then reentered after passing below the Epitafios. On Great and Holy Friday, the Orthodox Church commemorates the death of Christ on the Cross. This is the culmination of the observance of His Passion by which our Lord suffered and died for our sins.
