Ninety years after its founding, the Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia will mark a milestone reached by few community institutions. On Saturday, January 24, 2026, the Club will hold its 90th Anniversary Gala, honoring its history and recognizing past presidents who helped guide its course across generations.
The event will take place at the Ballroom at the Ben, at 834 Chestnut Street in Center City Philadelphia. The setting carries particular significance. The Club’s first gala was held there in February 1939, when the building was known as the Benjamin Franklin Hotel, creating a direct link between the organization’s earliest public gatherings and its present moment.
Founded at a time when higher education remained out of reach for many immigrants, the Hellenic University Club emerged as a forum where graduates and professionals could connect scholarship with civic life. Over the decades, it became known not only as a social institution, but as a space where education, leadership, and Hellenic identity were actively nurtured and carried forward.
The evening will begin with hors d’oeuvres at 5:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:00 p.m., and will conclude at 10:00 p.m. Musical accompaniment will be provided by the Macromantis Band, and the program will include a silent auction supporting the Club’s ongoing initiatives and future activities.
Individual tickets for the gala are priced at $150. The Club is also offering a Centennial Circle contribution of $1,000, with proceeds directed to its Scholarship Investment Fund to support future scholarships. Centennial Circle members will be recognized on the Club’s website as the organization looks ahead to its centennial in 2036. The initiative seeks 100 Centennial Circle donors.
While the gala marks a notable anniversary, its emphasis remains on continuity rather than nostalgia. By recognizing former presidents and long-time contributors, the Club underscores a tradition of stewardship that has allowed it to evolve through decades of social change while remaining anchored in its founding mission.
