The CineΕλλάδα series returns to the Chicago area this month with a screening focused on one of the defining figures of modern Greece.
The Consulate General of Greece in Chicago, in cooperation with the Hellenic Foundation, the Pickwick Theatre, and the Hellenic Film Society USA, will present Kapodistrias on Thursday, April 16, at the Pickwick Theatre in Park Ridge, Illinois.
Directed and produced by filmmaker Yannis Smaragdis, the film focuses on the life and legacy of Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of modern Greece. It traces his path as a diplomat and statesman, while also touching on the personal sacrifices behind his political vision during the early years of the Greek state.
Actor Antonis Myriagos portrays Kapodistrias, bringing to the screen a figure more often encountered in history books than in contemporary storytelling. The film runs approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes and is recommended for audiences ages 12 and up.
