New York — On Sunday morning, twenty distinguished individuals were sworn in as new Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, joining the esteemed ranks of the Archons of Constantinople. Among them was Philadelphia’s own Stathis Karantonis.
The Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City and presided over by Archbishop Demetrios. Following the service, the formal investiture ceremony welcomed the new Archons into their roles.
Mr. Karantonis was bestowed the title of Archon Hypomnematografos. He is an active member of the St. Thomas Greek Orthodox community in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, where he currently serves as President. He also serves as President of the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley.
Born and raised in Thessaloniki, Greece, Karantonis is a devoted husband and father of two sons. He has been married to his wife, Michelle, for twenty years. Deeply involved in the Greek-American community, he has been a proud member of AHEPA Chapter 69 for the past decade.
Reflecting on the honor, Karantonis said, “I was honored and humbled to represent the Philadelphia metropolitan community and to aspire to the values of the Order of St. Andrew bestowed upon me.”
