Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church on Bustleton Avenue kicked off the fall semester of its Greek School this past week with a traditional Agiasmos service and a renewed spirit of community and growth. The service was led by Father Alexandros, who recently transferred from St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Atlantic City to take over pastoral duties at Evangelismos.
Parents, teachers, and students filled the church as Father Alexandros opened the new school year with words of encouragement and a heartfelt reminder about the importance of preserving the Greek language and culture. Following his remarks, he offered the customary Agiasmos blessing to mark the official start of the academic year.
Enrollment at the school continues to grow, with student numbers increasing from 48 to over 60. The school provides instruction for grades K through 6, holding classes at a nearby facility operated by a Russian Orthodox church just down the road.
The school’s steady growth reflects the dedication of the Evangelismos community to keeping Hellenic traditions and education alive in Northeast Philadelphia.
