Penelope “Penny” Mitoulis passed away on January 1, 2026. She was 93.
Mitoulis was born in 1932 in the village of Omali in northern Greece, the first child of Grigorios and Kyriakoula Karamitopoulos. During her early childhood, her family relocated to the nearby village of Tsotyli, where she later met her husband, George.
In the mid-1950s, Penny and George immigrated to the United States, settling in the greater Philadelphia area and becoming part of the region’s Greek-American community. They welcomed their son, Constantine, in 1957, followed by their daughter, Maria, in 1967.
For decades, Mitoulis was an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby. She served as a member and organizer within the parish beginning in the late 1960s and was deeply involved in the Ladies Philoptochos Society. She volunteered regularly at church festivals and events, finding pride and purpose in her service to the community.
Family and faith remained central to her life. She was known for her love of cooking and for the role she played in preserving Greek traditions within her home and church.
Mitoulis is survived by her son, Constantine Mitoulis, and her grandson, George Mitoulis, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members in the United States and Greece.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, located at 229 Powell Lane in Upper Darby. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., with interment afterward at Fernwood Cemetery in Lansdowne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
