Hatboro, PA – PGBL Hosts First-Ever Adult Summer Basketball Tournament
On July 27, the Philadelphia Greek Basketball League (PGBL) held its first-ever adult summer basketball tournament, marking a new chapter for a league that has become a cornerstone of the local Greek-American community.
The PGBL has been bringing together Greek men over the age of 18 for more than six years, offering not just weekly basketball competition, but also a place to connect, share stories, and celebrate Hellenic heritage. Games are typically held twice a week at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby, PA.
This past weekend, league co-founder Bill Zonios and his colleagues took that mission a step further, hosting the inaugural summer tournament at Renegades Gym in the Philadelphia suburbs. The event drew more than 16 teams from across the Delaware Valley, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere that blended sportsmanship, culture, and community.
The success of the tournament points to the continued growth of the PGBL and the strong bonds that connect Greek-Americans in the region — both on and off the court.
