Philadelphia, PA – April 5, 2025 — On Saturday evening, the Eleftheria Gala brought together dignitaries, community leaders, and members of the Greek-American community at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown to celebrate Greek Independence Day.

Hosted by the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley, the formal black-tie event honored Hellenic history and culture while supporting the city’s annual Greek Independence Day Parade.

The evening featured welcoming remarks, cultural performances, and key recognitions. Among the most notable moments was the entrance of the Evzones, the Presidential Guard of Greece, whose presence underscored the significance of the occasion. The 2025 Eleftheria Medal was presented to Caterina Papoulias-Sakellaris in recognition of her leadership and longstanding contributions to the Greek-American community.

The Federation also announced the 2025 Parade Grand Marshals: Drake and Maria Behrakis, known for their commitment to education and Hellenic causes in the United States.

Guests participated in a silent auction during the cocktail hour, with proceeds benefiting the parade and related initiatives. The evening also included a Young Adult Cocktail Hour, offering space for younger members of the community to connect and engage.

Later in the program, live music by Atlantis of Philadelphia and a performance by KALOMIRA brought guests to the dance floor, closing the evening on a celebratory note.
