Upper Darby, PΑ – The Pontian Akritai of Philadelphia were out this past week, spreading the traditional sounds of Christmas throughout the Delaware Valley. Visiting homes and businesses, they brought tears and smiles to many Greek-Americans who welcomed them and shared traditional Greek sweets of the season, like melomakarona and kourabiethes. Dressed in traditional folk attire, they danced and sang songs in the Pontian Greek language. Many of those that they visited participated by dancing and singing along.
