Upper Darby, PA – It was like bringing home the gold medal in Greek folk dancing for this dance troupe. St. Demetrios’ Pontians who also happen to be members of the Pontian Akritai of Philadelphia sent their all-star dancers to the annual Metropolis of New Jersey Greek Folk Dance Festival. Result… Nailed it! Not once, but twice. The Akritai brought home 1st place in dancing and original folk attire.

Each year, the annual event known as “FDF”, hosted in Annapolis, Maryland, invites Greek Orthodox church dance troupes in the Mid-Atlantic region to participate in a variety of categories. Hundreds of youth, young adults, parents and clergy from around the Metropolis attend the weekend-long event. FDF has started some twenty years ago and continues to be the premier folk dance competition sponsored by the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey.
