Synapantema 2026, the 17th Annual Pan-Pontian Youth Convention USA-Canada, will take place June 19 to 21 in Toronto, hosted by Brotherhood Pontion Toronto “Panagia Soumela”.
The weekend brings Pontian youth organizations from across the United States and Canada together for workshops, cultural programming, organizational meetings, and social gatherings.
Participating organizations listed in the event materials include groups from Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Canton, Chicago, Cleveland, New York, Norwalk, Philadelphia, and the southeastern United States. The Pontian Society “Akritai” of Philadelphia is among them.
Brotherhood Pontion Toronto “Panagia Soumela,” the host organization, was established in 1963 by Greek immigrants of Pontian descent. The organization’s name refers to Panagia Soumela, the historic monastery and icon closely associated with Pontian Greek memory and religious life.
The convention opens Friday, June 19, with registration and a Welcome Vradia, an evening gathering, at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church in Scarborough.
Saturday’s program at the Latvian Canadian Cultural Centre includes workshops, a presentation on Panagia Soumela and the Saints of Pontos, a Pontian dialect class, dance rehearsal, and the general assembly and elections. A Pontiako Glendi, a Pontian celebration with music and dance, follows Saturday evening at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church.
Sunday’s program includes a dance showcase at York University’s Tait McKenzie Centre and a Farewell Vradia at the Greek Community of Toronto.
