The Pontian Society “Akritai” of Philadelphia hosted their first ever Apokriatiko glendi on Saturday evening. Apokriatiko Glendi means farewell to meat… it’s one of the last days for Greek Orthodox Christians to indulge in eating meat before Great Lent starts the sober weeks of fasting. The event featured live music, which from Christos Tiktapanidis on Lyra & Evangelos Poneris on Daouli along with Vasilis Ikonomou. Local Greek band, Seizmos was also on hand. A special performance by the Pontian Society Dance Group, featuring “Ta Momogeria” was performed. Guests came dressed in carnival costumes.
