Middletown, PA – Driving into the parking lot of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, you could smell the souvlakia cooking in the back yard of the church. Parishioners were twisting and singing along as they cooked. The summer time smells of outdoor Greek cooking had begun. St. George hosted the first Greek Festival.

Although they didn’t host it outside under a tent, the party went on inside, where the church hall was filled with Philhellenes and vendors selling Greek and Greek related products. It was reminiscent of a stroll down through the streets of Athens Agora. Greek was spoken everywhere and hugs were exchanged. Traditional homemade cooking was also everywhere, welcoming in the hungry crowds. A perfect stop for the weekend.
