Cherry Hill, NJ – The Greek Orthodox basketball league of the Delaware Valley started the post-season playoffs at St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church yesterday. Four games played out to a capacity filled gym. In arguably the biggest game of the day, fifth seed St. Demetrios came back and beat St. George (Media). St. George of Media held a 15-6 halftime lead only to fall 16 to 15 to St. Demetrios, allowing them to advance to the second round of the playoffs.

In game two St. George (Media/boys) beat St. Demetrios (Upper Darby/boys) 35-32, in a tough fought match that saw both teams exchanging buckets up until the final minutes of the game. St. George’s late team effort and the defense held off St. Demetrios to advance.

Game three features #3 seed St. Lukes against #6 seed St. Thomas. St. Lukes played a very controlled offense and defense the entire game and took home a commanding victory by a final score of 29-17 over the host team church. Next week they host the second round.

The final game featured(Bustleton) Evangelismos (boys) who showed up determined to prove themselves the dominant force. Although they struggled offensively, their strong defensive effort overwhelmed the St. Lukes boys giving them an overwhelming victory. Final score: Evangelismos 42, St. Luke 26.
