St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church in Cherry Hill welcomed faithful from across the Delaware Valley for a moving two-day celebration honoring St. Iakovos of Evia. The parish hosted services on Friday and Saturday, with many joining in person and others following from home through Cosmos Philly.
This year’s feast carried special significance. The Epitachelion of St. Iakovos, a vestment worn by the Saint, was present for veneration, offering parishioners a rare moment of closeness to a modern saint remembered for his humility and deep prayer. Clergy and volunteers at St. Thomas prepared for weeks, describing the arrival of the relic as a blessing for the community.
His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of New Jersey presided throughout the weekend, beginning with Friday’s Great Vespers and continuing through Saturday’s Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. A reception followed the Liturgy for all in attendance, closing the celebration in a spirit of fellowship.
