MEDIA, PA – The tents are going up again at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, and the aromas of souvlaki and moussaka will soon fill the air. From September 25 to 28, the parish will host its annual Taste of Greece Food Festival, a four-day celebration of food, music, and community that draws thousands from across Delaware County and the Philadelphia suburbs.
Guests can sit under the tents or gather around the fire pits while parish youth perform traditional folk dances in costume and live music carries into the night. Friday features a Greek band that promises to keep the celebration going “til your papoutsia fall off,” while DJs and vendors help create the lively atmosphere each day. All the while, plates of lamb shank, pastitsio, spanakopita, and fresh-carved gyros make their way from the kitchen, followed by hot loukoumades and trays of baklava. Imported wines, beer, and spirits round out the menu, with both in-person and online ordering available.
Behind the scenes, parishioners and volunteers put in weeks of preparation to welcome more than 15,000 visitors. Their efforts reflect the Greek spirit of filoxenia, hospitality, that has made the festival one of the most anticipated events of the season. Local businesses are invited to support the celebration as sponsors, while artisans and vendors can share their goods with the crowd.
