Theofilos “Phil” Malitas was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Phil passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on September 27 at 90 years old.

Phil was born on July 27, 1931, in Albania. His family fled to Greece in 1945. They remained in Ioannina for ten years. In 1955, they received an invitation to live with a cousin in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Moving to Philadelphia from Worcester, Phil, his brothers, and brother-in-law opened their first pizza parlor. New England Pizza in Upper Darby was the first to open, followed by four more pizzerias over the next eight years. The family then opened a wholesale food operation in 1959, known as New England Foods, which is still currently run by the family.

Beloved husband of Kalliopi (Popi) Malitas. Devoted father of Michael (Mary) and Magdalene (Magda) Malitas. Loving grandfather of Philip and Kristofer. Beloved brother of Demetrios (Jimmy), Foti (Alexandra), Ted (Kiki), his sister Figalia (Kosta), and his many nieces and nephews. He joins his brother Antonios (Tony) and his parents in paradise.

He will be remembered as a loving and caring man who put his family before everything. His smile and generosity could brighten anyone’s day. He will be sorely missed.
