Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and the Metropolis of New Jersey Council will host a farewell banquet for Archbishop Apostolos of Canada on Tuesday, September 8, at The Venetian in Garfield, New Jersey.
The banquet begins at 5:30 p.m. at 546 River Drive. Tickets are $195 and are available only through the Metropolis of New Jersey’s Givebutter page.
Apostolos is leaving the Metropolis of New Jersey after his July 22 election as Archbishop of Canada. The Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate elected him unanimously after accepting Archbishop Sotirios’ resignation from active service.
He had overseen the Metropolis’ pastoral and liturgical life since February 2021 and was elected Metropolitan of New Jersey in July 2023. His tenure included Greek Orthodox communities across New Jersey, Greater Philadelphia, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.
The farewell banquet comes 11 days before Apostolos is scheduled to be enthroned as Archbishop of Canada on September 19 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Toronto. The enthronement begins at 11 a.m.
