The Pan Icarian Brotherhood of America’s120th anniversary Supreme Convention will be hosted by its Philadelphia Chapter, “Atheras,” at the Sheraton Downtown this upcoming Labor Day weekend in historic Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
At that time, on Sunday evening, during its Grand Banquet starting at 6:00 pm, United States Senator Bob Menendez will be the recipient of The Spirit of Icaros award and will be offering virtually a special address to the attendees.
Senator Menendez is the senior Senator of New Jersey and Chairman of the United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The distinguished Senator Menendez is being presented with The Spirit of Icaros award for his historic support in defense of the Hellenic Republic’s Aegean islands, including the island of Ikaria, and the Rule of Law regarding their sovereignty.
In 2019, the esteemed Senator authored the Eastern Mediterranean Security and Energy Partnership Act, establishing the framework for U.S. engagement in the region. In 2021, he authored the Greek Defense and Interparliamentary Act, which created the “3 plus 1” format of Greece, Cyprus, Israel, and the United States.
On his behalf, United States Congressman Rob Menendez of New Jersey’s Eighth Congressional District will be present on this special evening accepting this award at the Grand Banquet. The Congressman sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as the House Committee on Homeland Security. Congressman Menendez, the son of the Senator, is also a staunch supporter in defense of Ikaria and the sovereignty of the Aegean islands.
The Grand Banquet will also feature addresses by Professor Ellene Tratras Contis, chair of the Pan Icarian Foundation, which is the Pan Icarian Brotherhood’s significant charitable arm, as well as the Pan Icarian Brotherhood’s outgoing leading executive, its Supreme President Cathy Pandeladis. Other special presentations and addresses honoring the event and Senator Menendez are also planned.
