The Pan Macedonian Youth Association is welcoming dancers and dance lovers to a special Greek Dance Workshop on Saturday, November 9, 2025 in Upper Darby. The workshop will be led by Dr. Christos Papakostas, a respected researcher and instructor known for his work in traditional dance from Northern Greece.
Participants will learn dances from Drama and Serres, two regions with deep musical heritage and lively village traditions. The event is open to the public for ages 13 and older, making it a great opportunity for youth and adults who want to expand their repertoire or experience Greek dance for the first time.
About Dr. Christos Papakostas
Dr. Papakostas is an Associate Professor at the University of Ioannina where he teaches folklore and Greek traditional dance. He has also served on the faculty of the University of Athens in the field of Greek traditional dance. His studies include physical education and dance science at Democritus University of Thrace with a major in Greek traditional dance.
Along with his university work, he has been a professional dance instructor in cultural groups and has taught percussion in music schools throughout Northern Greece including Drama, Karditsa and Trikala. He received his PhD from the University of Thessaly in history, archeology and social anthropology, and has taught anthropology, folklore and traditional dance courses at several universities in Greece. Organizers are excited to welcome him to Philadelphia and to share his expertise on the traditions of Drama and Serres.
The workshop will take place from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM at Saint Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, located at 229 Powell Lane in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. Admission is 30 dollars, payable by cash or Venmo at the door.
The Pan Macedonian Youth Association continues to promote Hellenic culture and heritage through dance, music, and community gatherings. Organizers encourage early arrival and comfortable dancing shoes for an energetic afternoon of movement and fun.
