Greek Independence Day will be marked inside the New Jersey State House on Monday, March 23 at 12:00 PM, as members of the Greek-American community gather in Trenton to observe the anniversary of March 25, 1821 within the setting of state government.

The observance will include a Greek Independence Day flag raising held at the opening of the New Jersey Assembly voting session with Speaker Craig Coughlin.

Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese (D-36), who represents parts of Bergen and Passaic counties, is among the hosts of the event, alongside the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey and the New Jersey Hellenic Heritage Commission. The observance is supported by several Greek-American organizations, including AHEPA and the Daughters of Penelope.

The setting places the commemoration within the formal proceedings of the state, bringing a historic national anniversary into the daily work of government.

Following the opening of the session, attendees will meet in Committee Room 16 for a brief gathering.

The event will take place at the New Jersey State House Annex on West State Street in Trenton.

Plan to arrive early to allow time for security screening. A valid photo ID is required for entry, and all guests will receive temporary badges upon arrival.

Free parking is available at the Capitol Parking Garage via Route 29. Additional metered and paid parking options are available nearby. The State House is also accessible from Trenton Transit Center, approximately a 10 to 15 minute walk.

Attendees are expected to follow standard visitor guidelines during the session, including maintaining quiet and observing any restrictions on photography.

For additional information, contact Assemblyman Calabrese’s office at 201-943-0615 or Dimitrios Kontolios, a coordinator for the visit, at 201-960-9260.
