Feasterville, PA – Pantaridis, Sarlis, and Bouras; three Greek-American woman that will be on the roster of team Greece at the World Cup. Don’t know them? That’s because this world cup, will be hosted in Dallas, Texas in December. The event, Roller Derby World Cup 2014 Blood and Thunder.
This past weekend, Sparta Kiss (Eleni Pantaridis), Betty Bam-Bam (Jessica Sarlis) and Beth Salts (Christina Bouras), as their nicknames say on the back of their jersey’s, visited suburban Philadelphia, with their coach, Lou Peters (Luigi/Detroit Derby Girls). They were in town for a friendly match up with the Pennsylvania Stars, representing team United Nations.
The ladies participated at the ECDX regional tournament which is by invitation to teams mostly from around North America. Philadelphia’s own, Eleni Pantaridis (Sparta Kiss) is originally from Upper Darby, and is a former member of the St. Demetrios community where she grew up. She skates for Dub City Derby in Boca Raton Florida, where she currently resides. She was recently featured at Cosmos Philly in an article title “Upper Darby Native to Skate for Team Greece”.
At the friendly match up, local Greek-American fans and family, from the Philadelphia area, came in to cheer Pantaridis on. Sparta Kiss and 300 were crayoned on fans arms, bellies and backs as they stood tall in support of their hometown girl.
Clothing designer DerbySkinz has designed the team clothing and will be sponsoring team Greece. Based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area, Nissanne and Auntie Pantie run the popular clothing line that distributes to the league.
