November 16, 2012 – Academic members of the Greek-American community gathered last week at Estia Restaurant in Philadelphia to discuss the future of Modern Greek as part of school curricula in the United States.

Using the model of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the meeting highlighted a task force initiative aimed at introducing Modern Greek alongside other foreign languages already taught in American schools.

The event featured presentations from educators across public and private schools at all levels. Dr. Vasiliki Tsingas and Dr. Maria Hnaraki of Drexel University spoke with Cosmos Philly about the importance of this effort and the future of the Greek language in America.
