October 20th, 2012, Philadelphia, PA – Celebrating their 50th year this past weekend, members of St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall Pennsylvania came together at the Hilton Hotel on City Line Ave. A heart warming celebration that included remarks from Reverend Father Christ Kontos, then President of the church, Susan Pilidis and Jubilee chairwoman Alexis Bove started the evening following cocktails.
His Eminence, Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey, gave credit to the St. Luke community and then had all the children in the room come to the center of the ballroom. There, he proclaimed the future of the St. Luke’s community lies with in these young people.
Atlantis of Philadelphia provided the music during dinner which was precluded with a video presentation about St. Luke. It included interviews with many of it’s members, who talked about the history, future and what it means to be part of the parish of St. Luke.
Ground breaking for the church started in 1962 and now with nearly 750 families, St. Luke continues to grow. New building additions and the continued growth of members, along with their annual “Greek Affair” (Greek Festival), have established St. Luke as a key church in the New Jersey, Metropolitan community that includes 13 churches today.
