Doxology at Saint George Cathedral to Mark Start of Parade Day

Great Doxology service at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia during Greek Independence Day celebrations 2023
The Great Doxology at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral marks the start of Sunday’s Independence Day celebrations in Philadelphia.

The official Doxology for Greek Independence Day will be held on Sunday, April 26, at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia, marking the start of the day’s celebrations organized by the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley.

The service is scheduled for 10:00 AM at the cathedral, located at 256 South 8th Street, and brings together clergy, community leaders, students, and families ahead of the parade on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

Observed annually as part of the Independence Day weekend, the Doxology remains a central moment of reflection before the public celebrations move into the city.

For many in the community, the morning begins at Saint George before continuing toward the Parkway, where participants gather for the afternoon parade.
