The Evzones, the ceremonial unit of Greece’s Presidential Guard, will visit St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby on Thursday, April 23, as part of the Philadelphia Greek Independence Day celebrations organized by the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley.
The visit offers local families, students, and community members a chance to meet the Evzones in an informal setting, learn about their role, and take photos. For many, it is one of the most memorable moments of the weekend, especially for younger members of the community.
Recognized for their distinctive uniform and their presence at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Athens, the Evzones remain one of the most visible symbols of Greece’s modern identity. Their annual visit to Philadelphia reflects the ongoing connection between Greece and the Greek-American communities that welcome them.

The gathering at St. Demetrios is free to attend. Guests are encouraged to RSVP through the church office in advance.
