The Greek flag will be raised at Philadelphia City Hall on Friday, April 24, marking the official start of the city’s Greek Independence Day celebrations organized by the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley.
Observed annually on March 25, Greek Independence Day commemorates the beginning of the Greek War of Independence in 1821. In Philadelphia, the flag raising has become a visible and symbolic moment that opens the weekend of events leading up to the parade on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.
The ceremony is scheduled for 12:00 PM at the North Apron of City Hall and brings together clergy, community leaders, students, and representatives of local Greek organizations. Each year, the event serves as a public recognition of Greek Independence Day and the presence of the Greek-American community in Philadelphia.

This year’s parade will recognize the past presidents of the Federation as Grand Marshals, honoring their long-standing service to the community.
The City Hall ceremony is open to the public.
