The Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to education and cultural enrichment. It connects Greek-Americans and individuals interested in Hellenic culture through various programs and events.
The Club fosters professional and social connections while providing scholarships to students of Greek descent or those studying Greek Studies. Applications are now open for the 2025-2026 scholarship program, offering financial support to undergraduate and graduate students. The program includes both merit-based and need-based scholarships.
Scholarship Opportunities for Undergraduate Students
Full-time undergraduate students enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university for the 2025-2026 academic year may apply for several scholarships, including:
- Dr. Michael Dorizas Memorial Scholarship ($5,000) – Honors an educator, lecturer, and athlete.
- Founders Scholarship ($5,000) – Recognizes the founders of the Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia.
- Dimitri J. Ververelli Memorial Scholarship ($3,000) – Supports students in Architecture or Engineering.
- George C. Liacouras Memorial Scholarship ($5,000) – Preference for students attending the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
- Goldie S. Vastardis Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) – Available to students whose parents are members of St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church in Broomall, PA.
- Paideia Scholarship ($5,000) – Available to children of HUC Philadelphia members in good standing.
- Plato Marinakos Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship ($5,000) – Preference for students in Health-related fields.
- Danielle Kousoulis Memorial Scholarship ($5,000) – Available to students majoring in business or related fields.
- Virginia Botsis Memorial Undergraduate Scholarship ($5,000) – Preference for music majors.
- Cyprus Society Scholarship ($2,500) – Available to members of the Cyprus Society of Greater Philadelphia.
Graduate Student Scholarships
Graduate students enrolled full-time in an accredited program (excluding postdoctoral studies) may apply for the following awards:
- Dr. Nicholas Padis Memorial Graduate Scholarship ($5,000) – Awarded based on academic excellence.
- John S. Manos, Esq. Memorial Graduate Scholarship ($2,000) – Supports law students pursuing a JD degree.
- Dr. Peter A. Theodos Memorial Graduate Scholarship ($1,500) – For students in medical school.
- Nicholas S. Hetos, DDS & Maria Galanos Hetos, EdD Memorial Scholarship ($5,000) – Supports students in dental and education-related fields.
- Kathleen and Nicholas Fisfis Graduate Scholarship ($10,000) – Focuses on STEM and medicine.
Scholarships for Undergraduate and Graduate Students
The following scholarships are open to both undergraduate and graduate students:
- Chios Society of Philadelphia “Koraes” Scholarship ($3,000) – Available to students of Chian descent.
- Nicholas L. Gianopulos and Antoinette Manos Gianopulos Scholarship ($5,000) – Supports students in civil engineering, architecture, or fine arts.
- Eleftheria Scholarship of the Philadelphia VFW Post 6633 ($5,000) – Available to children and descendants of VFW Eleftheria Post 6633 members.
Application Process
Applicants must submit an online application and required documents by April 4, 2025. Required materials include academic transcripts, a resume, letters of recommendation, a personal essay, and financial aid information (if applying for need-based scholarships).
