Last Sunday was nothing short of magical at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Upper Darby as we celebrated the 2nd Annual Kid N Buy Tinseltown Extravaganza. Organized by the dedicated PTA of the Saint Demetrios Greek Language School, this family-friendly event wasn’t just another gathering; it was a heartwarming celebration of the holiday season that brought our Greek-American community closer together.

One of the standout moments was definitely the chance for kids and families to snap photos with Santa Claus. Watching the little ones beam with joy as they posed with Santa was truly special. These snapshots aren’t just pictures—they’re memories that families will cherish for years to come. The DJ set the perfect holiday vibe with a playlist full of seasonal favorites, keeping everyone’s spirits high throughout the evening. And let’s talk about the food! The buffet was a delightful blend of traditional Greek holiday treats and classic American dishes, showcasing our community’s incredible culinary talents. A huge shoutout to the men from the church who worked tirelessly in the kitchen, ensuring every guest enjoyed a delicious meal.

The PTA took the lead in bringing the Tinseltown theme to life, transforming the church hall into a winter wonderland with meticulous decorations that sparked joy and excitement, especially among the children. Their hard work and creativity were evident in every corner, making the venue a festive backdrop for the evening’s activities. While the PTA spearheaded the event, the Philoptochos Society of St. Demetrios provided invaluable support, assisting with various aspects to ensure everything ran smoothly. Their dedication to community service and philanthropy added an extra layer of warmth to the celebration.

The festivities kicked off with a heartfelt prayer by Father Rev. Alexandros Kaitidis, setting a meaningful and spiritual tone for the night. Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed games, prizes, and a raffle filled with seasonal goodies donated by generous community members. With around 300 attendees from across the Delaware Valley, the event was a vibrant showcase of our community’s unity and festive spirit.

One of the highlights was hearing from Georgia Mylonas, a bright 5-year-old kindergarten student at the Saint Demetrios Greek Language School. She perfectly captured the event’s essence when she said, “I had so much fun at the event! I got to see my friends from Greek school and my family. It was really nice to be with everyone and have a good time together!”

The 2nd Annual Kid N Buy Tinseltown Event wasn’t just a celebration—it was a beautiful example of our community coming together to embrace the Christmas spirit. From festive music and delicious food to joyful interactions and heartfelt prayers, every element contributed to an unforgettable evening. We can’t wait to see what next year’s event will bring. Until then, a big thank you to the PTA, the Philoptochos Society, and everyone who made this year’s celebration so special. Here’s to many more magical moments together!
