Pound your chest if you are from Philadelphia, you are Greek and a sports fan of basketball! If you haven’t seen it already, pick up this week’s edition of Sports Illustrated Magazine (February 25, 2019).
Arguably the most respected sports news magazine, Sports Illustrated printed not one, but two great images in their edition. The cover features five players from the new Philadelphia 76er’s team, and the centerfold is of Giannis Antetokounmpo, known as the “Greek Freak.”
So why is it so cool, you ask? Like they say in the real estate industry, it’s about “location, location, location.”
The coveted front cover features the newly assembled Philadelphia 76ers after the final trade of midseason. The colorful cover is splashed with “PHILA” jerseys worn by Sixers players that brings on that Philly pride we’re so famous for. Inside, Sports Illustrated reports that the Sixers will be a contender for this year’s NBA championship.
So how does it get better than this? I said it before, so I won’t say it again. If you are familiar with the term centerfold than you must realize that this is the other most desired place to be featured in a magazine. That’s where you’ll find a fantastic illustration with none other than Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Giannis is featured with some of the most prominent members of the NBA, specifically from the East that will contend for the title. The Greek-Freak is battling contenders as he clings onto a colorful wooden twigged rope. The rope is obviously a metaphor for the NBA.
Believe it or not, it gets even better for Philadelphia Greek basketball fans. That’s because on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the Wells Fargo Center, the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and the Bucks, will return for a special night of basketball. The Philadelphia 76ers will host the Milwaukee Bucks for Greek Heritage Night for the 5th year in a row.
