Wilmington, DE – Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church celebrated the 200th Anniversary of Greek Independence on Thursday with a proclamation by the State of Delaware given by the Honorable Governor John Carney.

The evening launched with a procession of flags made by the youth who carried posters signaling Greece’s bicentennial celebration of freedom as they entered the church. The Doxology service was performed by Rev. Fr. Philemon Patitsas. That was followed by poems and traditional songs that were sung in honor of the historic day.

“I was moved by these poems and the history of this community,” said Governor John Carney who looked on from the front row of the church during the event. After reading the proclamation from the state of Delaware, Rev. Fr. Philemon Patitsas presented Governor John Carney with an Icon of the Holy Trinity The Hospitality of Abraham.
