Broomall, PA – On Sunday afternoon, St. Luke Greek Orthodox Church honored their beloved priest, Father Christ Kontos, with a luncheon to celebrate his 30th anniversary in the priesthood and 21st anniversary with the parish.
MC Deme Gregory-Peters led the festivities and introduced a series of parish leaders, that shared short presentations, stories, and memories of Father Kontos throughout the years.
His sense of humor, devotion to the parishioners, and love of the youth were common themes when asked what they loved most about Kontos. His hometown roots in Washington DC were mentioned throughout the afternoon. A die-hard Redskins fan, you can often catch him wearing a football jersey on occasion.
Father Kontos and his wife, Presvytera Michelle, have three children Renee, Aleko, and Sophia. Kontos began his career in the Washington DC – Baltimore area and has served in Milwaukee and Asbury Park, NJ, before finally arriving in suburban Philadelphia at St. Luke, where he has led the congregation that has grown from 500 to 648 families.
Father Kontos was visibly moved throughout the afternoon as he came to the stage, where he hugged children and parishioners and posed for group photos. The Greek School even made up a song that they sang in his honor. It was a lovely celebration from the St. Luke family, filled with admiration and love.
