Upper Darby, Pa., May 27, 2013. Greek-American post 6633 of Upper Darby met for a Memorial Day service yesterday at Fernwood Cemetary in Yeadon Pa. Some 30 members of the VFW post along with family and friends came out to honor and remember those that had served in the armed forces. A monument stands as a reminder of the organizations more than 67 years the commemoration has been taking place, where they gathered.

The service was led by Father Nectarios of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church. Some 227 names were read off during the service that was followed by a 2 gun salute. In years past, a picnic-lunch was served to those attendees, which later evoloved in to another tradition, serving Philadelphia’s famous “Federal Street soft pretzels” and soda. This annual ritual too was missed this year.
