Abington, PA – Vasilis Karasavas has been a member of Evangelismos Greek Orthodox church since the early 70’s. Migrating from Karditsa, Greece, he continued to move with his parish that relocated 3 times before finally settling where it is today, in Northeast Philadelphia.

As a parish member, he served as a cantor for more than 32 years and participated in maintaining and preserving his church. “I love being part of my church. For me it’s as if I am home back in Greece”, says Karasavas. Indeed, Evangelismos Greek Orthodox church is a little slice of Greece in America. It is one of the rare churches in the Philadelphia community where Greek language dominates the culture.
