Abington, PA – Vasilis Karasavas has been a member of Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church since the early 1970s. Migrating from Karditsa, Greece, he continued to move with his parish, which relocated three times before finally settling where it is today, in Northeast Philadelphia.
As a parish member, he served as a cantor for over 32 years and actively participated in maintaining and preserving his church. “I love being part of my church. For me, it’s as if I am back home in Greece”, says Karasavas. Indeed, Evangelismos Greek Orthodox church is a little slice of Greece in America. It is one of the rare churches in the Philadelphia community where the Greek language is the dominant cultural influence.
