Cherry Hill, NJ – The Three Hierarchs event returned to St. Thomas Greek Orthodox church. Eight years ago, the event was hosted there for the first time. Thirteen churches from the Metropolitan of New Jersey community attended and participated at the affair. Each church presented a poem or theatrical performance by it’s Greek school members related to the Three Hierarchs.
The annual Orthodox holiday observed on January 30th and recognizes Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom. Greek school teacher Stamatios Kartelopoulos gave a historic profile of their lives. The focus of his lecture, was the pivotal roles they played in shaping Christian theology and for bringing Hellenes the Greek letters.
Dimitris Rozanitis, president of the Educational Committee of St. Thomas Hellenic School, presented a check to Metropolitan Evangelos for One thousand dollars. Raised by the Greek school students of St. Thomas, the funds will go towards building St. Nicholas Shrine in New York.
Next year, the event will be hosted at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox church in Wilmington Delaware.
