Upper Darby, PA – Parade floats, marching band, national anthem, check. One by one, President Stathis Karandonis reviewed and then checked off his list at last nights final meeting of the Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley.
Representatives of some 45 organizations from across the Delaware Valley visited St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in the final preparation of Greek Independence Day Parade. During the evening the Kousoulis Family called into the meeting and sent a message of unity to the participants. This year’s theme will include a float dedicated to the memory of Danielle Kousoulis, their daughter who was lost at 9-11 in New York in 2001. The Kousoulis family continue to honor the loss of their daughter with various philanthropic acts.
The celebrations will also include fundraising buckets that will be passed around during the parade to raise funds for the building of the St. Nicholas Shrine, which is part of the weekend’s commemorations.
