Greek Dancing Follows Independence Day Parade

Upper Darby, PA – All roads led west to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church on Sunday, following the Greek Independence Day parade. The Greek community gathered over the border in Upper Darby for a series of songs and dances. Performed by each area church and organization, the crowd cheered as dance groups performed folk dances covering the spectrum of regional dances from all over Greece.

Dimitris Rozanitis of the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia served as the master of ceremonies. He introduced several dignitaries, including Supreme President Philip T. Frangos of the AHEPA. Frangos spoke on the meaning of Independence Day and its connection to the diaspora community.
