Gus P. Pahides of Southampton, PA formerly of Meadowbrook, PA passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015. He was 87 years old.
Born in Chios, Greece he emigrated to America in November 1946. By June 1949 he had started his own wholesale butter, egg and cheese business. It was the beginning of a successful career he enjoyed for the rest of his life. In 1950 he was called to serve in the Korean War, proudly, until he received an honorable discharge in 1952. Gus was a member of the Parish Council of his beloved St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral where he served as president and vice president along with being an active member in many other Hellenic organizations.
He was the beloved husband of Stamatia (Doloma) Pahides, who lovingly cared for him. In addition to his wife, he was the loving father to Helene of Yardley, PA, his son Peter, of Huntingdon Valley, PA, and his wife Kelly, his daughter Andrea of New Hope, PA and her husband Christopher, and Renee of Richboro, PA. Also surviving Gus is his former wife, mother of their children, and close friend Stella (Russon) Pahides.
He will also be missed by his stepson Pantelis of Chios, Greece and his wife Stella, along with their children Fanis and Stamatis. Gus was the very proud Pappou to his 12 grandchildren, Dana, Olivia, Dimitri, Jonathan, Christen, Nico, Aris, Alexa, Zara, Demi, Dena and Nicolette.
A Viewing will be held 7-9 pm Friday, May 1, 2015 at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. A second Viewing will be held 8:30 – 9 am on Saturday, May 2, 2015 followed by a 9 am Funeral Service at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 256 S. 8th St., Philadelphia, PA 19107.
Interment following the Funeral Service at Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge, PA.
