Karpenisi, Greece – Settled more than 5000 years ago, this rustic and secluded part of Greece is rarely visited by travelers and even Greeks. It is one of the areas least populated regions.

Throughout its history this part of Greece suffered much hardship. According to Homer, the first known inhabitants took part in the campaign against Troy around 1100 BC. During the Turkish Occupation of Greece, Karpenisi remained relatively free. Much fighting also took place here, during the Greek Civil War.

It has been called, one of most ecologically cleanest places on the planet.
