Middletown, PΑ – It was Greek against Greek in this friendly soccer matchup last Saturday at Sleighton Park soccer field. Rose Tree Soccer Club of Media (comprised mostly of Greek players), invited Kalamaki FC, from Greece out for the day. Kalamaki FC was looking for a second match to play on their visit to the States. Both teams featured players from their 40’ to 60’s. Kalamaki F.C. featured some former professional athletes from Greece as well.
The friendly match was more like a lesson in the game for Rose Tree Soccer Club of Media. What looked like a tough battle in the early minutes of the first half turned into a trouncing. Kalamaki FC led off with two shots hitting the top of the crossbar before one finally dropped in. By the end of the first half, the 2-0 lead looked like it would be all the scoring. But late in the second half with 15 minutes left in the match, they managed another score. And then with just ten minutes left in the match, they managed to make it 4-0. Rose Tree Soccer managed to score late in the match, but the boys from Greece were just too much.
The day closed with hugs and team photos.
