Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Easton Pennsylvania Celebrating Centennial

Church founded in 1917 hosting Centennial Celebration October 28-29

The Greek Orthodox Church of Annunciation Easton, PA was founded on February 16, 1917. A committee composed of George Georgopoulos, president; Max Crichinis, secretary; and Peter Lamppos, treasurer, purchased the Brainard Union Presbyterian Church building on South Delaware Drive for $3,600. The Church received a charter of Incorporation on May 31, 1918. The Incorporators were all Easton residents consisting of Rev. Simeon Mitalakis, George Lallas, George Georgopoulos, James Pappas, Christ Baltsas, Argyris Kossifos, Spyros Gikas, Louis Skalkos, Peter Manegatos, Stelios Samos and Nick Contopanos.

In 1926 the Committee of trustees purchased two houses at 39-41 North 5th Street and erected a church building that served the Community until 1970.

In 1942 a new charter was obtained under the rules, regulations, and mandate of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. The Incorporators were Father Athanasios Tsiamis, Michael Voyagis, Steve Dimmis and Gus Georgaris.

1969 – Purchase of The Good Shepherd Lutheran Church building at 20th Street and Hay Terrace and still current.

2000 – Purchase of 19.3 acres of land in Bethlehem Township the price was $365,000 and paid off in 3 years.

Annunciation Parish encompasses the ever-growing cities Easton, Bethlehem, Stroudsburg and Phillipsburg NJ. “We are excited by the prospects of a growing community that is looking to the future to teach our children, to serve our Lord. Plans on building our future Church is currently in progress and are welcoming donations.”

The Annunciation Centennial Celebration begins Saturday, October 28 with a Dinner Dance at Mountain View Chalet located at 154 Route 173, Asbury, NJ 08802. Doors open at 6:00 pm and include Prime Rib Dinner with wine Music by Apollo and dancing. Tickets are $100 per person and include a cocktail, dinner, and wine. Tickets are limited if available at the door at a higher price. The evening will also include the presence of our Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh. The Centennial Celebration will conclude on Sunday, October 29 with an archieratical liturgy followed by brunch sponsored by The Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society. The liturgy will be held at 9:00 am followed by a complimentary brunch at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church located at 319 South 20th Street, Easton, PA 18042 and will include the presence of Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh. The liturgy and as well as photos from past and present day brunch is open to the public.

In addition to the special events, a Centennial Commemorative Album will be printed at a later time to include a brief history of Annunciation as well as photos from past and present day.
