On Monday, November 13, 2017, Athena M. Dependahl, while living with her daughter, went home to meet her Savior. She was the daughter of Evangelos and Vasiliki Spyros of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, born to them on November 28, 1927. She was just days short of her 90th birthday, though family told her she had made it on the day that looked like the end was near. Proceeding her in death were brothers James and Spiro, and her identical twin, Helen Dillman.

Athena grew up in Philadelphia, graduated high school and went to work as an executive administrator. She loved to dance and was known to be extremely good at it. She married and had her 1st child at the age of 30. Her life of dancing was behind her when four children and a failed marriage sent her into the workforce full-time. She was grateful to have her beloved mother standing by her side as she raised her children on her own. Retiring at sixty-five, Athena enjoyed the best days of her life. She was a prolific reader, she volunteered at the local library, and always at the voting polls during every election season. She and her sister talked daily. Though her time had been limited in the kitchen, her children have yet to come across a better apple pie baker!

Mourning the loss of their Mother are children Lisa, Lance, Richard, Glenn and their wives, Kim, Sandy, and Maureen. Her eight cherished grandchildren-Caleb, Jordan, Chelsea, Anna, Hannah, Nicholas, Natalie, and Luke said goodbye to her and will miss her much. All were blessed to have known her and to have had her in their lives. Athena Dependahl was a real picture of courage, resiliency, determination, kindness and most of all Love.

The funeral for Athena Dependahl will be held on November 22, 2017, at the St. Demetrios Orthodox Church at 229 Powell Lane in Upper Darby PA 19082. The viewing is at 10:00 am, and the service is at 11:00 am, followed by the burial at Fernwood Cemetery located at 6501 Baltimore Ave in Lansdowne PA 19050.
