Angeliki Athanasoula, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, became an angel on June 25th, 2023. She passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by the family she molded with her tenacity and love.
Her story began in a humble village in Pieria, Greece, on April 10th, 1939, to parents Argiro and Dimitrios. She was the third youngest of six surviving children, but she would be the lone wolf that trekked to America in the 1980s with her husband, Evangelos, to live the American dream. Together they paved the way for their children and grandchildren to have a better life. They created a new home and instilled their strength into their family. Her family loves her dearly and will forever be grateful for her sacrifices.
She was a lifelong member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she would take her granddaughters every Sunday, rain or shine, to ingrain the values and traditions she grew up with. With the purpose of raising her three granddaughters, she spent most of her later years in life. She made sure to pick up her grandchildren from school every day, make dinner when they got home, and comfort them when they were sick. An amazing cook, she wanted her family to enjoy all the meals she grew up with and never skipped making her delicious Greek pies and koulourakia for every holiday.
While the grief of this loss is immeasurable, she will never be forgotten. Her legacy lives on through her husband Evangelos, her son Fotios, her daughter Maria, her grandchildren Angela, Evangelia, and Thomai, and her great-granddaughter Kalliopi. She will always be loved and remembered as the proud matriarch of her family.
Friends and family, join us to honor Angeliki’s life journey. The viewing is scheduled from 10:15-11 am, Thursday, June 29, 2023, at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 256 South 8th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107. The Funeral Service will commence at 11 am, and she will be laid to rest at Laurel Hill East cemetery thereafter. Luncheon to follow.
