The Federation of Hellenic-American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley, announces the Greek Independence Flag Raising Ceremony. On Friday, April 5, 2019, at 1:00 pm, at the northeastern corner of City Hall (facing North Broad Street) in Philadelphia, the flag of the Republic of Hellas will be raised. The ceremony will commemorate the 198th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
Participation at this historic event will include local, national, and international organizations. The Presidential Guards, an elite military unit from Greece, known as the Evzones, representatives from the Greek government, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, folk dance troupes, local Greek Orthodox churches, and Greek-American societies, will all take part at this historic event.
Guest speakers will address the attendees, followed by a reception in Conservation Hall inside City Hall. All Hellenes and Philhellenes are invited to attend this historic day.
