A bust of Archbishop Athenagoras is decorated with flowers during the Feast of the Universal Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross on the boardwalk at Asbury Park. Archbishop Athenagoras was the Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in America from 1931 – 1948. After his election to the Ecumenical throne in 1948, he became the 268th Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople until his repose in 1972.
