Jeffersonville, PA – On Sunday, his Grace Bishop Athanasios of Kisumu (Africa) came and conducted services all the way from Kenya at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox church. His Grace is a former classmate of Fr. Peter Thornberg from the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of the Theology.
Bishop Athanasios of Kisumu oversees approximately 300 parishes, with 115 priests, 1 medical clinic with three more to open, 5 high schools, 8 primary schools, a monastery dedicated to St. Anthony (under construction) and many other ministries. His Diocese encompasses a very large geographical area bordering Lake Victoria, Somalia, Tanzania, and Uganda and includes regions such as Turkana, where much missionary work is taking place.
